  • My wife and I are big bed and breakfast fans. The particular one we were traveling to was located in Reedsburg, Wisconsin on a retired farm. It was March. When we arrived the ground was green. The next morning we woke up to this. How would like to sit and that bench and stay a while?

  • Waterfalls themselves are spectacular. The power exhibited by of one of nature's forces crashing through or tunneling out rock as it makes its journey down into a waiting pool of water. All that energy can create something spectacular. It can be something as simple as rapids or more hypnotic as a whirlpool. As shown below at Dave's Falls in Wisconsin, all the wispy oxygenated water from the whirlpool shows up as white streaks due to the long exposure used to slow down the rapid movement of the water. The extremely low angle of the shot adds to the drama and makes it seem as though you are standing in the water. The bridge and fall color complete the image inviting you to take it all in.

  • A fresh white snowstorm in the heart of a Midwestern winter. Typically these types of snowstorms don't last long and the snow it hangs on the trees is usually short-lived. It is basically go time when storms like this come. Be ready and capture the moments before the wind comes and blows the snow off the trees or the sun comes and melts it off.

  • This image is of downtown Milwaukee, particularly the riverwalk area. Executing this image was no small feat as the sidewalk I had to stand on is part of liftbridge that has a lot of traffic going over it. This translates to a lot of vibrations. With exposures reaching 20 - 30 seconds timing the traffic was key.

  • The culmination of a moon setting, the sun rising, fog, a lake reflection, a silhouette, and the end of autumn peak colors allowed for quite a scene to photograph. It was a tricky one too, especially doing it in a single frame without overprocessing the image in post-processing. The additional challenge of keeping the moon sharp but being able to pick up the colors of the rest of the scene and maintain a silhouette.
